DR. M. NAHAL

Dr. Nahal completed her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology at McMaster University and pursued her Optometry degree from the University of Waterloo, where she earned numerous awards and scholarships, including the American Optometric Foundation Carl Zeiss Vision Fellowship, Walman Optical Scholarship, Varilux Student Award, and Vistakon J. Pat Cummins Acuvue Award. She completed a residency in Refractive and Ocular Surgery co-management through Pacific University at the IRIS Ophthalmology Clinic in Langley, the only accredited position in Canada at that time. Dr. Nahal also completed the Optometric Extension Clinical Curriculum Program through the Optometric Extension Program Foundation (OEPF) in 2015 and an apprenticeship with Neuro Vision Consultants (NVC). These experiences equipped her to build our in-office Vision Therapy Program, which assesses, manages, and treats Learning Related Visual Problems, Visual Dysfunctions, Strabismus, and Amblyopia. This initiative commenced in 2024.

As an optometry student, Dr. Nahal held several leadership roles, including President of the Canadian Association of Optometry for Students (CAOS), Student Liaison for the Vision Institute of Canada (VIC), and Student Liaison for the Canadian National Institute for the Blind (CNIB). She was also an active member of the Lion's Club, conducting school screenings, and participated in a mission trip to Cameroon with VOSH (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity). Her academic training included internships in Toronto and Waterloo, as well as an Ocular Disease externship at the prestigious University of Texas Southwestern Ophthalmology Clinic. From her rotations and residency, Dr. Nahal gained extensive experience in the therapeutic treatment and management of eye diseases, including glaucoma, macular degeneration, cataracts, refractive and corneal surgeries, retinal conditions, and specialty contact lens fittings.

Dr. Nahal is currently enrolled in renowned Robert Sanet courses to enhance her Vision Therapy practice and provides MacuMira treatments, the first and only Health Canada-approved treatments for dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD). Her future goals include offering vision therapy to patients with concussions, traumatic, and acquired brain injuries. She is a member of the College of Optometrists of Ontario, the Ontario Association of Optometrists, and the Canadian Association of Optometrists. TPA certified, she practices full-scope optometry serving patients of all ages.
