Dr. E. HOLMES

Dr. Holmes has been working in optometry clinics since age 13 and has done it all, from front desk, pre-testing, glasses fitting, to now seeing patients as an optometrist. Elyse graduated with honours from University of Waterloo in the aptly named class of 2020 and subsequently started their career at a clinic in Cape Breton. Practicing in rural Nova Scotia provided the opportunity to independently manage many eye diseases/emergencies and serve remote Mi’kmaq and Acadian communities.

As a student, Elyse was vice president of UW’s VOSH chapter (Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity). Dr. Holmes organized clinical trips to Senegal and Nicaragua as well as travelled to Haiti twice to provide eye care. Dr. Holmes’ clinical externships involved treating glaucoma and ocular disease in Utah, managing refractive surgeries at LASIK MD in Halifax, and providing pediatric eye care on an Anashinaabe reserve in Manitoulin Island.

Dr. Holmes is a very thorough and meticulous practitioner who will always make accommodations to suit patients’ diverse needs. Elyse truly enjoys answering patients’ questions and loves any opportunity to share their enthusiasm and knowledge of eyes. While Elyse enjoys all aspects of optometry, they are particularly passionate about post-concussive rehabilitation, dry eye, glaucoma, low vision, and binocular vision.

Dr. Holmes was thrilled to move to Fergus in August 2023, close to their hometown of Guelph. Elyse is fluent in French and English and taking lessons in ASL. They are a Rainbow Health Ontario-registered provider proud to offer 2SLGBTQ-affirming care. Outside of Upper Grand Eye Care, you’ll find Elyse at a zumba class, curling rink, farmer’s market, or on a hike.

Dr. Holmes is accepting new patients and is looking forward to compassionately caring for all your vision needs!
